Dr. April Marklin is a 1989 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She has practiced small animal medicine in Knoxville, TN, Marion, VA, and Greensboro, NC. She purchased the Burlington Animal Hospital in 2004. Her work has been published in several veterinary magazines: Veterinary Economics, Veterinary Forum and Veterinary Technician magazines.
Dr. Marklin is married and has two beautiful children. Her household would not be complete without her Dachshund, Taylor who comes to work with her every day so be sure to look for her! Her family has also recently acquired two mix breed puppies. She has raised those puppies from very early age. We must add that her three household cats are not thrilled with the new puppies. Her hobbies are her children, pets and work. She further says that it is wonderful to be blessed with a full-time job that you also consider a fun thing to do.
Dr. Deanna Tickle is a 2001 graduate of the North Carolina University College in Veterinary Medicine. She began working for Burlington Animal Hospital as a full-time veterinarian immediately after graduation. Before graduating veterinary school, she worked as a veterinary assistant at Burlington Animal Hospital from 1993 to 2000. Dr. Tickle was born in the Burlington. Besides veterinary medicine, she enjoys reading, ice skating, target shooting and running. She also loves spending time with her niece and nephew, as well as her two dogs and two cats.
Dr. Susan Haver is a 2010 graduate of Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. She has been practicing general and emergency medicine before beginning at Burlington Animal Hospital. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, outdoor activities and playing a flute. She has a chocolate lab and two cats.
Dr. James C. Brown graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1959. In addition to his veterinary degree, Dr. Brown also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health. Before purchasing the Burlington Animal Hospital from Dr. Sellers in 1975, Dr. Brown worked in fields of veterinary medicine. He has treated horses and livestock, worked as a meat inspector for the USDA and worked as a veterinarian for the US Air Force Space Program. He also served as a director of the Veterinary Medical Technology program in Sanford, NC, from 1965 to 1975. Dr. Brown has semiretired from veterinary medicine, but you still may see him occasionally at our hospital. He spends his spare time with his grandsons, gardening, cooking and playing the piano.
